I work as a mobile inspector using a variety of technical equipment to measure parts and produce reports. During my training i receive help from all of my colleagues and I am regularly reviewed by my managers so that I always know what to do and how to improve.
I have learnt many new skills, such as how to use the technical equipment in our department, as well as basic engineering skills taught to me by our training centre, such as hand tooling and use of machines such as milling machines.
The apprenticeship programme itself is almost always interesting, with a wide variety of topics being learnt at all times. However the programme can make me feel a bit isolated from other people of my age, due to the large age gap between fellow employees and the long working hours.
The programme is very well organised, with regular reviews and planning sessions that ensure that I know where my apprenticeship is heading and how to improve. At work I generally learn by helping other colleagues but we do have dedicated training sessions and programmes that have been planned well.
Jaguar Land Rover does a fantastic job of providing external and additional support for a variety of causes, such as mental health and additional learning support. At the moment I do not receive any additional support, but I know how to apply and where to ask if need to.
EEF (Now known as Make UK) does a good job of ensuring that we are on track towards achieving our BTEC scores and additional training, but does have problems with marking sometimes. However the ITMs provided by the college are fantastic.
As a whole the course learnt through the training provider does not provide much in depth knowledge in the highly technical department I work in, but the provider has ran a 2 week metrology course which was perfect for my role - but a lot of the subjects are simply irrelevant.
There are activities available, but not to a huge scale, and currently I do not participate in any.
Yes
Jaguar Land Rover offers an in-depth, interesting course with a huge amount of employee support and a positive, pro-employee environment that feels good to be a part of. JLR also does a great job of planning and structuring the apprenticeship, and colleagues here are always happy to teach an apprentice.
Dont be put off by the difficult entry exams and start to the apprenticeship, as the course is well worth the effort. Also a lot of the colleagues at JLR are very approachable and will be happy to talk to you at any time.
