  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently a part-time apprentice for a masters planning programme which is 2 years (compared to 1yr for a full time masters) I go in for lectures 1 day a week and have 2, 3hr lectures each day. During the 4 other days of the working week I am working full time at a consultancy.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • It is currently term 2 - so far I have only had 1 out of 4 modules where I have learnt something new My undergraduate degree is related to my masters so maybe that's why I haven't learnt many new things Skills haven't been developed - content is very basic

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is ok - the people are nice but most of the lecturers are not good. They are quite unorganised and do not give much help or direction when it comes to coursework Most do not try and engage students either However one of my lecturers is very good - very engaging and has made me understand topics I didn't get before

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is ok. It is the first year the university is running this programme so there were quite a few mishaps at the beginning. As an apprenticeship, the university is supposed to communicate with my employer however they have not really done so. My employer (and coursemate's employers) find out everything through us (and even we get information very late) Learning contents seems ok structure-wise

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Financial support wise a lot In terms of time to do work not so much but that is ok Also, as the university doesn't really communicate with my employer, it's not surprising that they can't help me as much as they don't have any info (they get all uni-related info from me as the uni doesn't tell them anything)

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • not that much other than learning content many of my coursemates do not have a background in our current masters and even when asking lecturers for help, the help is not that useful coursemates find it better to ask other coursemates for help anything apprenticeship-related, all coursemates have had to research themselves, the uni did not provide any support

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i have been able to apply content from one module into work, the other 3 i haven't been able to apply for the one module it it useful as it is related to case law and i occasionally have to deal with that in my job the other 3 aren't contemporary modules

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • at work yes, at uni for the apprenticeship, no work is very social and we have gettogethers - at uni since we are only in 1 day a week, we don't have the same freedom to join any sport teams etc the uni also doesn't host/inform the apprenticeships about any networking events which would be useful

  • 9a. Would you recommend BNP Paribas to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • my company is good but not lsbu it has only been 1.5 study terms but lsbu has been very disorganised much of the key information regarding the course has been spread from student to student - we don't get informed about it as a cohort which isn't great hopefully the next year will be good

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BNP Paribas?
  • lsbu is the only apprenticeship i could apply to for my course in london - the other apprenticeship unis were too far if you are applying to an apprenticeship, definitely have a look at the range of unis possible where you can study don't be limited by certain factors, e.g. the attractiveness to work/study in london and the city
