  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I support the design and the modelling of the building services engineers. I carry out the basic calculations to help back up the services that I will be modelling within autodesk Revit and all schematics are drawn up with in auto cad. I am involved within coordination meeting internally and externally

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt a number of different skills since joining bryden Wood. When I joined the company I have no idea what was involved in becoming a building services engineer. After working here for 3+ years I am now competent in using a number of softwares and carrying out basic calculations

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme that I have been put on. I enjoy the fact I am gaining work experience as well as the university experience and eventually coming out with a degree. It is a little hard work juggling the work but it will be fully work it in the end

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The company are fully supported of the the program I have decided to under take. However getting onto the university course was hard work to start with as there was a lot of confusion and I was unable to get in contact with anyone at the university. Upon starting the course rooms were not available but this was eventually sorted after a couple of weeks

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The company are fully supported of the the program I have decided to under take. Any concerns that may arise during my course the company will try their best to escalate this and try and find a solution as soon as possible. The company are also fully supporting and understanding of the work load I may have at times

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards my qualifications I have not received any support from my training provider. I know that if I were to come across any issues when working towards my qualification everyone is always so open and happy to help my resolve any issue or confusion I may have, this includes the people I work with

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualification and stays with the engineering council will help me within my role And to help me achieve my career aspirations in becoming a building services engineer. Not everything I learn is relevant but it is all good knowledge to have and it may become useful knowledge in the future

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a number of extra curricular activities that I am able to get involved in within the work place. There are season socials at work I’m which all employees are invited too. Additionally there are also socials if there is completion of a job or at the end of a stage where everyone who has worked on that job gets invited to

  • Yes

  • I would recommend this company to a friend as there are very supportive in what I want to achieve and push forward in my career. If I ever have any concerns or questions people are always open to try and help me get an answer and if they don’t know they will point me in the correct direction


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bryden Wood?
  • I think the best tip you can give to anyone is to be yourself and be confident. Show enthusiasm and carry out research into the company before attending the interview. Just let them know what your career aspirations are and I’m sure they will try and find a spot within the company for you
