As a quantity surveyor my day to day activities vary but mainly its to look after any live projects from a financial and contractual standpoint, I also aid in sending out inquiries to subcontractors/suppliers for any upcoming tenders we are preparing or projects due to start shortly to ensure we are buying projects at the right price.
At Lanview everyday is different and the skill set I've developed during my time here is growing every month. I've got 1 year left to go at University and then finishing off the APC process which by that point I will have had around 6 years of experience within the construction industry.
Its a pleasure to work here, its a smaller team so you get involved at every level of the business so you get a real feel for how the business is run day to day. There's a strong sense of team spirit and everyone gets involved to help out where they can.
As above, where it's a smaller company you cant get lost as a number in a bigger machine, everything you do counts. There's a clear team hierarchy, any training we require/need is provided (through the university currently), tasks are delegated evenly between team members.
I receive any/all support I may have required or asked for during my time here at Lanview.
Working towards my degree, the support received has been adequate where requested. However support working towards my end point assessment (achieving chartered status through the RICS) has been abysmal from the apprenticeship team. Constantly having to chase for information and updates that should be provided as a matter of course should not be the norm however I know that this has been not just been the case for myself but a number of my colleagues as well. It falls well below what I was expecting to have received from the apprenticeship team and has detracted from the whole experience.
The different modules we undertake are tailored to what we are expected to undertake as professionals within the construction industry and I feel like they have all played a part at some level during my time within the industry so I would have to say that they have been useful.
Golf Days
Yes
It's a great place to work, the people are friendly, there's a shared mentality of wanting to do well in whatever we do.
Just be yourself, and expect to get out of it what you put in.
