  • As a field engineer my daily tasks involve installation, testing and fault finding on the fibre network (internal/external), using a range of next generation OTDR’s, light sources, power meters and high precision fusion splicers as well as many other types of measurement and test equipment.

  • yes I have learnt lots of new skills...ranging from ICT skills to using testing equipment.

  • I loved everything about my learner journey...my tutor was absolutely fantastic and really supported not only me, but everyone in my group.

  • super organised and well structured giving me the correct tools to succeed throughout my apprenticeship

  • had an extreme amount of support from not only my manager but also my tutor

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • amazing amount of support throughout, I really struggled with the ICT exam and failed quite a few times!! but with the continued support from my tutor I finally passed on the 5th attempt.

  • the qualification that I worked towards has given me all the relevant skills needed to carry out the basics of my role and get my career started with openreach.

  • there's recently been an Openreach rugby league started, which ranges from touch to full contact...the group I currently work under is also taking on the Rat race in may

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • always be honest and open and also be accountable! make your main priority safety...at all cost make sure you get home safe everyday...no job is worth you not going home at the end of your shift. be there for others...you'll never know when you'll need support
