  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • learning to fabricate and weld in a workplace. i study 4 day a week in a workplace completing tasks that involve grinding, gas cutting and welding. I also study 1 day a week in a college where we focus on the health and safety side of work in a workplace.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to work safely at a work place. I've learnt to follow the procedures given when completing a job. I can do gas cutting, welding , fabricating different beams and products and read simple engineering drawings. I have also learnt extra skills like being patient when working and think before i act.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Fabricating and welding apprenticeship is a interesting course. It involves many practical and mental tasks. Its also interesting as throughout your working shift you are involved in many activities that include welding, gas cutting, grinding and reading drawings. The course also gives you many doors to open for your future work places where you can work with different metals and different tasks.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programmer is very well organised. This is because they have a set plan for every student and they keep on moving them forwards in order for the students too learn more skills. The programme gives students an opportunity to improve and show their skills at a workplace. the progamme also allows the students to study about the course which will develop their skills and knowledge.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive constant support from my employer. I'm given tools needed to work with, I'm always given opportunities to complete different jobs and learn new things. My employer is supportive. if i need some time off or need more time to study i always receive it and the help and guidance.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I always receive the support from my training providers. I am given work to complete with the correct help and guidance. If i make mistakes then i will be told about it. I also am given a schedule throughout my apprenticeship year to help me with the progress i'm making and so that i finish all the work on time and by the end of the year.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification throughout my apprenticeship so far has helped me a lot, especially the health and safety side of everything. I have learnt how to behave safely at a workplace, i have been show how to complete basic welding and i have also been shown how serious the workplace actually is and how careful i need to stay to avoid injuries and prevent accidents.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many activities in the workplace. The most recent one was a 20 mile walk for charities where anyone at a workplace could join to fund money for charity. There is also a football team that plays for the company, anyone from the company can join and play. There are also different teams at a work place that you can join and talk about the future for the company.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is very professional and supportive. You are given constant challenges and opportunities to improve. The workplace is focused a lot on the health and safety side of things and they want to look after their employees. At his workplace you also are given plenty of time to practice and ask questions.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to William Hare?
  • I would advice them that the company is very professional and demanding and that you will learn everything quickly and at high standards over a period of time. I would advice them that the company is very friendly and is supportive to guide you correctly throughout your apprenticeship years and will give you opportunities to show your skills.
