  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Throughout my apprenticeship I have to go on a different team every 6 months, this allows me to expand my skills and knowledge of the business. I have been on the cheque team, stock, automated payments and agents debts. Everyday I have to help customers with their different queries and resolve them as soon as possible.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since working at the Post Office, I have gained lots of confidence and independence with my work. I have developed using my own initiative as I take responsibility for my own work and don't wait to be told what to do. My communication skills have improved massively as I am able to speak on the phone and face to face with customers and colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a lot and it has given me so much experience and helped me grow as a person. Everybody Is really friendly and I am never afraid to ask for help if needed. The job itself is really interesting and you get amazing opportunities even when you're an apprentice.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is really well organised. My college tutor will come and visit me once a month to go through the work that I have done and to observe me in my role to see what I have learn and what I am able to do confidently. I also get time to do my college work within my work time so I don't have to do it all at home.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My apprentice manager (my employer) is very supportive and helps me with anything I ask. She urges me to go above and beyond and do things out of my comfort zone. With her support, I have visit London, Belper and Leicester to work in branches and attend meetings. This helped me stand out as I have been to other places.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Every time I need help ill always email or ring my training provider to ask any questions and they always get back to me within a couple of ours explaining the things that I would not understand. My college tutor has helped me complete my nvq by always explaining what I need to do better and how to do that.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification helps me to perform better in my role as it gives me a better understanding of the customers needs. As I am completing a Customer Service Level 2, it has learnt me how to speak to customers professionally and how to deal with difficult calls.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We get involved in extra curricular activities such as Rounders, Race for Life, Sparkle Walk and Evening walks around he country side. We also do raffle tickets to raise money for things such as childrens hospitals and animals. We also have trips to the head office in London to get involved in workshops.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • From working at the Post Office I have gained so many skills and expanded my knowledge massively. It has also helped me to grow as a person. The jobs you do are really interesting and you move around different teams so you can get a feel for everything. Its also a great company and you receive many benefits.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Post Office?
  • When applying for the Post Office, ensure that are ready to go in with an open mind as you learn so many different jobs never knowing where you'll end up next. You're pushed out of your comfort zone to make you a more confident individual and you'll be involved in lots of events.
