  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage the Quality Control function within Barclays PPI. On a day to day basis I have to ensure that the complaint cases that are worked by our associates on site are quality checked to ensure that we are doing what is right for the customer and what is right for the bank. I also deal with all new entrants into the bank that includes putting them through a training programme and getting them accredited.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt several new skills including managing a high performing team which enabled me to perform several surveys with my team looking at learning styles, DISC profiling, conflict styles, team climate and communication styles. This has enabled me to be able to review my teams structure and work to their individual strengths.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme very much and it enables me to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle of the office and focus on the learning aspect of the course. It also enables me to network with other colleagues of Barclays from all around the country when we come together every few months.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the course is very well organised and structured. The study blocks are very relaxed and informative and fit in well with the groups learning styles. During the study blocks we are able to work within groups to get other peoples opinions and also the lecturers are always on hand to offer help and support.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I receive from my employer is very good I am allowed half a day study each week to help me towards assignments and group work/assignments. this is fantastic as it probably would not work without this support and also being able to have the time off to go to study blocks and covering the costs of transport etc.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I receive from my training provider is very good I have regular meetings with my personal tutor and the tutors are always on hand to assist whether that be to help with group work by dialling into conference calls or to offer advice with assignments. It really never seems any trouble for them and they want us to succeed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the qualification is helping me with not only my role but also whilst I am looking to apply for future roles by utilising some of the skills that I have learnt and how I can apply them to my current skillset. I have learnt so much already and am looking forward to learning more in the future.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some extra curricular activities however some involve travel to other sites across the UK. this is never normally a problem and we can get the travel approved however it can sometimes act as a slight deterrent although there are normally ways around this. It has also enabled me to try and set up such events at my local site for people outside of the course.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Barclays to a friend and I have done to many of my friends as they are a good company to work for that is in the local area. And providing you are willing to put the effort in you can advance within the company to wherever your heart desires.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • If I was to give tips to anyone when applying for Barclays would be to have a good varied amount of examples you can use in any interviews. I would also say that also take the examples right back to the beginning and don't miss anything out. Take advantage of all opportunities that you can be involved in as it will help grow your career.
