  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role in my local area supports the team handling data, including pulling the data for use with coding to perform regular and adhoc projects for the commercial side of the business and transforming this into visualization. As i'm learning a lot of the techniques, data storage and locations and how to pull the data efficiently my day to day role is usually learning on the job with which ever project I am working on plus incorporating this into my portfolio for my qualification.

  • Transitioning from school into the world of work has been a massive learning curve, i'm developing my soft skills plus my technical skills for my role. I'm learning and understanding new software's and languages such as : Tableau, SAS, SQL plus i'm learning about how the business works internally and the impact roles have on the future of the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my role here at Barclays, its a good working environment with plenty of opportunities. Regarding the qualification side I enjoy documenting and sharing my projects that I am taking part in for the portfolio in my coursework . Although the course can be a little hard going at times.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Personally I would say this is the only part which isn't quite 100% yet. With my role and my area its all organised and structured well, however the apprenticeship side has been a little trickier starting the program, getting my training provider sorted, communication with events and sorting my course dates etc.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive so much support and guidance from my employer's and my team, whether that's with day to day queries regarding my work, with the set apprenticeship objectives, coursework help, one to one meetings or advice and tips to get the most out of my experience here at barclays.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have calls with my support mentor to check on my progress with my qualification and coursework, review meetings with my mentor & Line manager to see my progress against my set deadlines and we remain in contact occasionally via email if there are any updates or questions to be answered.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My actual course helps me understand ideologies and practices better, without actually being able to do them, so I feel I can understand better in meetings. My course to help me with my day to day role using SAS has been scheduled later on in my apprenticeship so I haven't completed this yet, although this should benefit my role better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of opportunities at work to get involved in, there are groups and clubs to get together with an activity plus arranged sports to play in. There are usually lots of events to volunteer in such as British summer time, volunteering for charity and helping out at local places for the day.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend as I believe that Barclays is a really good company to work for, its super diverse with a lot of opportunities available both internal and external. My experience whilst being here has been super positive so far and its been an absolute pleasure to have been given this opportunity.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • When I applied for Barclays we all got put through to an assessment center day for the different management teams to meet and interact with all the applicants. I think to just be willing to be yourself and push yourself out of your comfort zone as much as possible where possible.
