  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves ensuring the site is safe and operating properly through planned and unplanned maintenance. I work alongside other engineers whilst I complete my NVQ and BTEC qualifications. I attend college once a week but had a block release at the start of my apprenticeship where I attended college full time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am learning new skills all of the time in my role. I work with other engineers and apprentices to see how to do things before having a go myself where I am supervised before being signed off as competent. I attend college each week to learn how to do things.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy working for Solenis as I get paid and get a qualification as I work. I alongside some great guys. IThe programme is well set-up and I enjoy working on site. I get to be involved in lots of different things and there is lots of support for me if I need it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well strucutred with apprentice training days, networking lunches and department training days. I get half a day per week to complete my college work as well as going to college one day a week. I have mentors to work with and an apprentice manager who helps work with the college to get good training.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have an apprentice mansager who delivers training days. My manager is always available to speak to and I have mentors who help me learn the role. New apprentices also get an apprentice mentor to help with college work. My assessor comes out to see me on site and is able to answer questions and help with my qualification.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I had a block release at college at the start and now attend once a week. tutors are keen to help and make sure you get your work done well and in on time. My assessor is very good and comes out to see me on site regularly. He gives me advice to support me to get my qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is great as it is delivered through work. I get to learn on the job with experienced people and support from mentors and managers. The college days give me the knowledge and the nvq helps me show what I have learnt. I hope to get more qualifications once I have finished this apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am a member of the sports & social club which gives me discounted tickets to events. I am part of the young persons network where young people socialise and do charity events. We have networking lunches each month with other apprentices and inters from other parts of the business. There is also a free gym with gym classes you can attend.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Solenis to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • You get a qualification at the same time as getting work experience and getting paid. Its a good way to start your career and get to know the business. You get good support and everyone wants to to do well. The teams are great and there are really good jobs.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Solenis?
  • Come to site on the open day, make sure you understand the role you are applying for. Speak to people doing the job. Make sure you prepare for the assessment centre & interview. Do some research. Make the most of it. Solenis is a good company to work to with lots of opportuities.
