  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • In my work experience, I learned health and safety within a workplace, how to repair laptops, diagnostics of laptops, core principles in a workplace. We also learnt about what esd is, what affect it has on technology, what effect it has on us, and how we can protect against esd.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • The first thing I learned was a lot of communication skills, as I was talking to a lot of people during my job, which helped me to learn more communication skills. I also learned about skills that would help me to be safe in the workplace, for example when working with esd sensitive products.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I enjoyed my work experience a lot. I learned a lot of new things that I did not know, as well as meeting and talking to new people. I also developed some of my own personal skills. Overall it it was a fun learning experience in a stress free environment.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • At the start things were not as organised. However, the work experience progressively got better, and I was always given something to do, and things were organised prior to us being there. Our training was particularly good, as each day was structured to learn something new and pushed us to do better.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • From the time I have been here, I have learned a lot about the business, how it operates, its backstory, and the people who run it. Being in the environment helped me to understand what it would be like to work in the business, which was important to working in the business.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • From working for the company for a few months, it showed me the sort of jobs and roles that I can do within an IT oriented business, and the different types of things that I could, and that I was not limited to only a few choices when picking a future career path.

  • I was paid for my work experience at dixons carphone. I have been given money towards travel from the college which was helpful towards getting to work. I did not receive money for meals while at dixons, however there were facilities for getting food or storing food that I brought.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • We did meet other employees during our time at dixons. We met with people from different areas each day, which allowed us to talk about our experiences within the business, and general work related conversations. We also had access to workplace, which allowed us to talk to others who made posts, joined groups etc.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe that dixons carphone is a great place to work, which provides a lot of opportunity for anyone to grow within the business. Dixons also has a very friendly environment, which would be something that someone may look for when applying for a job. Working here is also very awarding, and a lot of fun.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • I would research the company, to make sure that you know the history of dixons carphone. I would also speak to others and look at reviews, as this gives you an idea of what the business is like, how the people are, and what the overall experience will be like when you apply.
