  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I advice client in regard to their investments. I also am involved in leadership duties such as leading team meetings and training etc. I speak with client in the mass affluent area meaning clients investing up to £1m .My role is regulated and I am an assistant vice president at Barclays.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes - this course has changed my view of my work. I am better able to present, lead and engage stakeholders. I am using learns from the program everyday. The course has encouraged me to be more engaged in my work and to take on more responsibility. I am involved in various projects because of this course.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy learning and developing and I feel that I have certainly developed. I am based in Glasgow but the study sessions are in Grantham or Nottingham, meaning I need to travelling 6 hours each way to and from the study area. I have two young children and I have found the work / life balance a challenge.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course is very well organized and the course leader is particularly good at keeping people informed and remembering everyone. There are time though when the structure can feel intense because we can learn new concepts and then be immediately presented with an assignment. Communication with tutors can be difficult as I found occasions were they do not get back to emails.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am pleased that Barclays have sponsored me for this program and paid for the study. I have been given one day a fortnight off work and been more involved in project work to support my learning and development. At the same time, the business demands have been intense and increased at the same time as more assignments are due.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider is very well organized and the course leader is particularly good at keeping people informed and remembering everyone. There are time though when the training providers communication with tutors can be difficult as I found occasions were they do not get back to emails which can be frustrating!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Yes - this course has changed how I approach my work and my mindset. I am better able to present, lead and engage stakeholders. I am using learns from the program everyday. The course has encouraged me to be more engaged in my work and to take on more responsibility. I hope to progress my career as a result of this course.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes - not many! - I get involved by going to the a local gym with colleagues which is subsidized by my employer, however, my ability to have a any form of extra circular / social life / work / life balance has been reduced by working full time, completing this degree and being a father of two young children.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Barclays can be a great place to work. There a great team of people here and atmosphere. The work can be demanding, but opportunities are there for people who are prepared to be engaged, work hard and seek progression. I have been with Barclays for nearly ten years and I enjoy my work.

  • The work can be demanding, but opportunities are there for people who are prepared to be engaged, work hard and seek progression. I have been with Barclays for nearly ten years and I enjoy my work. Look to Barclays values and seek to understand how you approach things not necessarily just what you do.
