  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently, I am a Customer & Fraud Manager. Specifically within this wide team, I look after the enrolment of alerts. For example, we would study that customers are not happy with the lack of information on their current account about their overdraft. Therefore, we would look to develop a push notification for Barclays app users to ensure those customers are always kept up to date. Thus driving down complaints, driving up NPS, and reducing costs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of different roles whilst on the Leadership & Management Programme. Those skills start from how to deliver excellent customer service by adding value and always ensuring the customer is updated with any progress or changes in their query. I have more recently been gaining experience in hosting calls and meetings in prep for projects I am involved in over the next quarter

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like the fact I can rotate roles every 6 months to get exposure to different bank roles. As an apprentice in the organisation, I have been invited to attend different events with MDs and put my skills to use in presentation development when communicating change across the organisation. This included a powerpoint that I presented to the colleagues across the Oxford Market. However, I only enjoy it to the extent that previously the careers team would not think outside the box and approve rotations that would actually have an impact on my learning and development.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The University are fantastic at communicating and arranging all study blocks. They provide fantastic tutors and the tutor to tutee meetings are really beneficial. However, the company side can sometime let the experience down as the communication between the careers team and the apprentices is lacking. However, they have recently created new roles within this team and the people that fulfil those roles such as a career coach are making changes. Those changed are beneficial.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As previously mentioned, thanks to new roles within the careers team, the employer now have someone called a 'career coach' who can help guide me and support me with my career. Thanks to them they have approved my current rotation working in the Alerts team for push notifications which maps well to my portfolio I am working on.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot. The Uni are always there for advice and the tutors are also always on hand to provide feedback and steer me in the right direction for the report I am working on. They are also always keen to remind and help peers with the development of their portfolios. Constant help and support is always provided.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Some areas more than others. Specifically, there are marketing and finance assignments that give me the opportunity to review the business's marketing position helping me to gain a greater understanding of the business's position in the market. These I would argue are the more valuable as opposed to the self development one. Purely because of the recommendations made in these reports don't always resonate with me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are no extra curricular activities as such that are organised. However, colleagues in the office may arrange days that support charities where everyone has the opportunity to get involved. However, there are no official extra curricular activities that one can sign up to and network with others in the same business area.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Barclays is a great company with a thriving and exciting history of firsts. They are always looking to continue to be the bank of firsts and to be involved with that is a real driver. They provide excellent career opportunities and the staff all share the same vision which helps boost company morale.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • I would suggest to apply for a role they are genuinely interested in. This means that they an use their passion and interests to help get the most out of the role. For example, if you are interested in design and graphics, then I would suggest applying for a role within marketing or the media department.
