  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role includes dealing with claims from customers who have been debited when using a ATM but have not received their desired funds. In this role we send claims to other bank for them to investigate and we also investigate claims our selves by looking at the ATM and seeing if there is any error on the transaction.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt interpersonal skills by adjusting how to communicate in an office environment and adapting to the fast paced office life in the banking industry. I have also learned communication skills and integrity by communicating with stakeholders in Barlcays such as branch members, other banks and customers who have a bank account with us.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed the first year in my apprenticeship and I am currently in my second year which is less intensive in comparison to the first. The first year contained many modules and tasks which pushed our learning and development and skills. These tasks included doing group and individual presentations. The second year only contains one module.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well structured in terms of external companies coming to Barclays to train us on our apprenticeship, in which we learn new skills and have the opportunity to ask questions to the trainers. Our deadlines for the modules and tasks that are set are very well organized and we are always pushed by our team leaders

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is always extra curricular activities in our workplace, we have five a side football matches which remain fun and competitive at the same time without any malice or tension and there is always a team night out every month in which several members from each team go out and socialize.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • While Barclays is a massive company with many lucrative offers, I feel like the working environment is not for everyone as we hold very high standards and work at a fast pace. We do try to make things fun but our inner core is to do the best we possibly can and this can cause stress in a already existing high pressure environment.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • If you are committed in making a change and being a driving factor in innovation and customer driven operations, I feel like having the mindset of going the extra mile will yield the best results for anyone has the ambition for working in Barclays, only by going the extra mile can a person achieve the best results.
