  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the control room. The tasks that I have as a Controller include working to ensure that all sites are covered and that Officers are deployed in a cost efficient manner with regard to client requests and company policy. I have also worked frequently as a Team Leader covering specific areas for the Head Office.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • While working here, I have been able to develop my leadership skills as well as my responsibility as I am now frequently tasked with looking after fellow controllers as well given my own areas within the business to look after. I have also been able to improve my computer literacy as I am now well skilled in both Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • In the time that I have been here, I have enjoyed both my job as a controller and the Level 3 course that I am undertaking very much. I have matured and grown as a person and am now looking to the future in order to see how much more I can improve and where I can go.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our programme is very structured and organised. Our work has been set out in units which are accessed through an online system that is quick and easy to use. All units are very well structured and organised to make it simpler as well as easier to find and work towards.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Total Security Services has been a very supportive employer. We have been given both lesson time as well as study time within our business hours allowing us to work towards our qualification as well as do our job more effectively. Our independent study time is logged and is guaranteed each week without issue.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider has been very supportive, regular reviews and observations have helped keep on track of our progress and where we are falling behind. They have also helped resolve any issues that we have had regarding not being given study time as well help when with doing work when we are not at work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification has been very helpful in regards to my performance as a Controller. The qualification has been fine tuned so that it relates to my job role and it allows me to have examples that help me work towards my qualification. The work for my qualification has allowed me to work with more confidence and motivation.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At Total Security, there are several extra-curricular activities to get involved in. The company has a Tennis-Table, Foosball table and a Pool table available to all employees to use to blow off steam during or after work. We also have a weekly football session at the local goals as well as regular nights out and parties.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Total Security has been a joy to work for from day one. They are a great company who are friendly and helpful as well as encouraging. I have not got a bad word to say against the business and enjoy coming to work everyday and look forward to hopefully continue working here in the future after the apprenticeship.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to T.S.S. (Total Security Services)?
  • Anyone applying needs to be calm and confident. It is okay to be nervous but there is no need to panic as every employee in any department is helpful and friendly and more than happy to help you with any problems that you may face. There is no need to be afraid of not being qualified as the company helps you gain the necessary qualifications.
