  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my work-day consists of many different tasks, which can range from preparing loads for collection by customers to storing flammable products to make sure they are segregated and stored away safely. forklift truck driving is a massive part of my role and training to make sure that procedures and processes are followed is vital to my role.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • the skills that I developed throughout my apprenticeship became vital life skills because of the experience of working in a productive environment with a supporting team. Various qualifications and forklift licences will support my future career and the training and mentoring i received has supported me to achieve a full time role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the freedom to expand my knowledge without any barriers and the out of department opportunities such as apprentice open days, development days and various on and off site projects. Learning on the job and gaining the experience while earning a salary. being involved in various tasks such as safety meetings and got training in the systems and admin department.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the organisation and structure of the apprenticeship is brilliant, the freedom and the encouragement from the management team is great and the senior leadership team are always interested in our progress as apprentices on site. The coursework and training structure were really thought out and developed with me through my apprenticeship to create the best experience

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • still after being made full-time the support i receive from the company and my departments management team is still excellent. regular meetings to assess progress and development on the shop floor are made to see what can be improved and what goals i have achieved so i can set new targets.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • my training provider (kirklees college) came out onto site every fortnight to assess and talk through the scheme and make sure that all my work was up to date and above the standard that was required, they encouraged us to showcase our experience to other external apprentices and employers through site visits and tours.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i feel that without my training from my training provider i would have struggled a little bit within my role because of inexperience working on site. the guidance that was given to me helped me set a goal and drive towards it while been helped along the way which in turn helped me to achieve my goal.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads of extra-curricular activities such as getting involved in kids lab, network apprentice days, on site tours, sports and social club and young persons network. open days and events are regularly offered to attend whether you are helping out or just attending, also got invited to play football for a team which another apprentice managed and i'm still playing to this day.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • because it helped change my life for the better and helped me take a positive step towards a successful career. I have achieved a permanent role with and organisation and the apprenticeship scheme is a great way to recruit young talent and i have have gone on to recommend the programme to a friend who is currently finding success in a different department and i've enjoyed mentoring him and seeing him develop.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Solenis?
  • be yourself and always be confident, if you have an idea, speak up there is no such thing as a stupid question and you will be taken seriously. research and came to events like our apprentice open days to find vital information about the roles that are available and make sure that you feel comfortable in what you are applying for.
