  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in a mechanical/electrical maintenance role at jaguar land rover. On a day to day basis I can be responding to breakdowns on the line, carrying out surveys on the technical equipment, engaging in kaizen projects to save the company money, increase production and ensure quality; and testing different tools

I have learnt a lot about fluid mechanics and maintenance on mechanical components. as well as the practical aspects of my learning i have also learnt a lot of theory whilst completing my BTEC.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Although the program has come with many struggles as a whole I have definitely enjoyed it. I have learnt a lot of new things and met great people. It has set me up for future careers and opened new doors for me. Problem solving can be very rewarding and in terms of enjoyment JLR are very keen for you to have a good work life balance

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was a bumpy start top the apprentice ship but over the past nearly 4 years i have definitely seen a vast improvement. The teething issues have been solved and it is good to know that the future apprentices will not have to face the struggles i personally endured at the start of the apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a very large amount of support from my employer. For instance I am currently recovering from an injury (not in the workplace) that left me needing surgery. JLR have been a massive help providing me with physiotherapy and being understanding of my situation. We always have people we can go to whether it is our manager, champion or work based learning manager.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have many people we can go to for advice or help achieving our targets. We are given all the jobs needed to tick off our NVQ with no hassle at all. Our learning provider could be a bit more helpful when it comes to having to catch up or if we are struggling but they are improving on this.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualification we receive from our training provider gives us the theoretical knowledge of why we are doing what we do. also the practical lessons we took for the 1st year gave us a really good base knowledge and skill set which we could bring into the work place

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have recently had a hobbies fair to get like minded people with the same interests together to form clubs. This was very successful and great to take part in. We also have the ELS scheme which we can spend on extra-curricular activities outside of work to boost our skills, inspire us or take part in team building excursions with our colleagues .

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Interesting innovative work. Great benefits. Great pay. Receive great qualifications. Meet and network with people from all around the world. Chance to travel. Discounts. pension scheme. ELS scheme. Working with state of the art technology. Being proud of your job and the company you work for. Learn whilst you earn.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Demonstrating good behaviours is more valuable than knowledge. you can teach someone skills and knowledge but you can't always change their behaviours. If you are willing to learn, understanding, keen and can work in teams you will do well. You could know everything but if you can't follow rules and show respect and maturity you will not succeed.
