  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I support people with Learning difficulty's to live as independently as possible in a supported living setting, Oaklands park is a 135 acre working farm and all the people we support have jobs/roles to do with in the farm, garden, Weavery etc so our days supporting can be different every day !

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am learning something new every day and the people we support are always teaching me new skills, just as I am teaching them too. I am now learning more about the paper work side of the job, which I do find very challenging but its a great learning curve

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying being back in Learning, but I am not good at the paper work so find that challenging, but the ease of using the programme on line is easier for me as I can pick it up when I have the time, I do not have to comply to set hours

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme I feel is structured to my personal learning style, meaning that I can learn and undertake work at my own pace and learning. If I find I have "spare" time I can log in and work The information is easy to access and find, I do have an issue with saving work but I think we have now solved that

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My Line manager is always around to talk too if I have any issues or queries , we have regular team meetings, supervisions and appraisals once a year and we have a team leader one who is also great source of information, assistance and support to myself and the rest of the team

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My trainer is on the end of the phone and via emails if I have any queries and will answer me in a timely manner, she is always helpful and easy to talk to, making sure I understand what is being asked of me and putting me at ease when I am over thinking !

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am hoping that it will help me understand the ever increasing mountains of paper work we have and my day to day role more which will then hopefully enable me to do a better job in supporting the people I support and make a difference in their life's

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are always events happening on site or further afield, every Tuesday its triangle club and on Fridays Treasure seekers both of which the people we support love attending, on site we have move nights and in the summer/ special occasions/ festivals there are party's held in the lighthouse

  • Yes

  • Read the Job description and make sure your application form shows your experience in each field The interview might seem daunting but try and relax and enjoy it, you will get to met some of the people we support as they help with the interview process Enjoy the experience, show what a difference you could make to someone s life
