  • my work experience involved preparing food to be served to the residents of the torrwood care center. I had to cut up things such as carrots and onions. I also had to make/ bake cakes for the residents as well as the odd bit of wiping up near the end of the day so that the kitchen space was clean for the next day.

  • I learnt a lot about food preparation and how kitchens run. At the time of my work experience, I was thinking about future job placements and wanted to see how busy a kitchen really was. • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • My work experience showed me that I should look into different career paths after leaving school instead of just one. Before I did work experience I was set on the catering industry but after working in the place that I did I realised that I wouldn't be in my element in a catering job.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • Since I did the work experience with my school I did not get paid as they thought that since I was in an experience I should not have been paid as I was not properly doing a normal job. So I did not end up getting paid for my work experience.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • I worked close to 5 other employees as in a kitchen everyone has something to do and everyone was very busy all hours of the day. I met this other kitchen assistant that was working there part-time who was a very friendly character that helped me find my way around the kitchen.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company taught me a bunch of different life skills and cooking skills. I believe that anyone that goes there for work experience will come out with double the knowledge they had going in. Also, the other people that worked there showed me what it was like to work with colleagues.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Torrwood Care Centre?
  • I would say to someone applying to the company that they need to be hard working and have the mind set that they want to get things done as the work place is very hard and requires a lot of physical energy and concentration. I would also say to have a positive attitude.
