  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is an mechanical engineering and production combined role, im responsible for repairing any production critical breakdowns and ensuring that the plant is running to its full capacity at all times. I also work alongside the shift teams to aid them with the day to day production needs, with tasks such as making up the products and packing the finished product.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a full new skill set with my role, i have learnt how to repair mechanical equipment from start to finish with items such as pumps, gearboxs, agitators and fans. i have also learnt how to use the control systems that are in place and how to correctly interact with these to allow me to run the production Successfully.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my program fully, this has been down to the high level of training that i have recieved throughout my program, the helpfulness and willingness of the employees to aid my development and the working environment that i have been in has allowed me to trully develop my skills for this role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well structured with help and support available throughout. i have been able to ask for advise when ever i needed it as well as been mentored throughout to ensure that i was getting the best exposure to the role, allowing me to gain the maximum out of my time on the program.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support that i have got from my employers has really helped me with my personal development throughout my training course. They are always looking for ways to give me additional training and always available for information or advise for any questions that i may have with regards my work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider gave me a great level of support when it came to working towards my qualifications, my learning and development officer was great for me as he was always available to ask for any advice as well as offering his opinion on the work that i was completing and ensuring that i was able to complete it to the highest standard.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification that i completed gave me a great understanding of the basic engineering techniques that i would need to be able to complete my jobs on a day to day basis as well as well as giving me a view of the types of equipment that i will be coming into contact with whilst in my work place.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many activities that you can take part in outside of your work, there is a dedicated sports and socail club that we get discounted offers for activites all over yorkshire and nationally. there is also a young persons network on site which gives the young people on site a chance to meet and socialise outside of work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Solenis to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They hae really embrased me as an apprentice and allowed me to develop myself into a person capable of completing the tasks required, whilst giving me the help and support to really understand what it is thats required of me in this role and given me all the support and training to be successful .


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Solenis?
  • Make sure that you take the time to really understand what it is that your applying to do, it is a big company with lots of different apprenticeship options so look at all the options and go with what you think you will enjoy. take time with your appliaction to make sue that you are in the best position to be successful.
