  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Software support section called data warehouse of Production support for UBS. In this team we get given requests and incidents that we have to solve independently or with your team. The start the day at 9 and I join a Skype call were I have to update my team with the certain daily activities like deployments or end of day updates. Since I work in software support, my daily activities vary each day which what makes working in this sector so enjoyable for me.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skill while working for UBS. One skill I learnt is SQL. This is a database coding language which would be very useful for my CV and its a very universal coding language. As well as learning a lot of hard skills I've also developed quite a lot of soft skills such as communication effectively and efficiently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Since I work in Software support, my daily task vary from day to day which make the program experience very good for me since you wont feel bored in my experience. The team i work in is very friendly and I'm very fortunate to have kind and hardworking coworkers who are willing to teach me a lot of useful skills i can use in the future. The reason why I believe my co workers work hard the way they do is because of the company culture. Since the beginning of the formal introduction, UBS kept explaining how important their culture is and how they expect their employees to behave and from the first day in the role I've noticed how much of a great impact it causes. Overall I I've enjoyed this program and it has exceeded my expectation.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My Program started with a 2 week induction, first week with all apprentices and second week with all the IT apprentices. I found this very useful for all new apprentices as it help create relationship for apprentices as they're very within the few people that are within your age group. My experience with training was very badly organised. Since my apprentice program wasn't yet approved and finalised, my group were 7 months delayed. This means our 'apprenticeship' only started a week ago even though I've been working since September. We were told this wasn't going be an issue in the grand scheme of things since our contracts are going to be increased to help us finish the apprenticeship. I've heard from other apprentices that theyre program are going great and they're no further issues.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get a lot of support from 4 different people. My manager, my buddy (an apprentice that joined a year before I did), my other manager (who directs my manager and other team leads) and my mentor (a IT director from sector not close to mine). I've also been told that I'll be receiving an other mentor from my apprenticeship program. I have meeting monthly with everyone and I'm free to arrange meetings with them whenever I need to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received very little help from my training provider . • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a lot of volunteering events that we apprentices have the opportunity to join. I receive a lot of emails from my employers to play football or basketball at a local school, I've also had a lot of invites for social events such as the Thanks giving event or the Christmas Party.

  • 9a. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • i would recommend UBS to a friend since it's great company to work for because of its unique culture. Since they invest a lot in their employees, everyone is expected to work hard. UBS is also cares about your future and there is a lot of room to grow within the company. it also has good pay compared to the competition and a lot of benefits.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • The application process was very good in my opinion since they cared more about how you was as a person instead of how you are on paper. They ask a lot of personal question instead of technical question which shows they care about how much you fit in their company culture instead of what grades you got in college.
