Software engineer Review

I'm mostly working on main project which is coding in Java. Previous project was using React JS. all of the coding languages that I use on my job - I have learned since staring working here at BT, I also get involved with the local area as part of the BT apprentice committee.

I have learned many skills since starting work here at BT. Firstly I have learned a few new languages such as Java, React JS, as well as further developing languages that I already new such as HTML, CSS and Python. I have also developed my business/social skills by working in such as dynamic and people focused environment .

I very much enjoy my time working at BT. It's a very social place to work, but still provides the same hard working environment that encourages you to do more. The work life balance is also the best it can be, where you can do your work and still have time for a social life.

The programme is very well structured, with a team of buddies and superiors who are always on hand to help you if you get stuck or have any concerns with your work or with uni. It's a new programme so there still is a few problems but they can easily be worked around by being proactive

I receive plenty of help from my employer, there is always somebody on hand to help me. the help usually comes from either other people in your apprentice cohort or from people who are further along / completed the apprenticeship programme which means they can help with both work and uni

I have 1 day at uni attending lectures, which is when we can get hands on help from our lecturers and teachers. They are very approachable and are normally on hand to help with any queries throughout the week. I also get 1 study during the week when I can study and complete assignments

A lot of the work I do at BT can be closely related to my uni work, this process also works the other way round since the uni course is software oriented, the topics I study will come up through some of the projects that I carry out on a daily basis

There are plenty of extra curricular activities that you can do at BT. Theres a gym as well as many different clubs that you can join such as sports teams, book club. Most teams In BT also arrange their own activities as a bonding exercise which are really great fun.

BT is definitely a great place to work, with the chance to quickly work your way up the academic ladder. when you finish you'll complete your apprenticeship with both work experience at one of Europe's most respected IT companies and a full degree, which is completely paid for by BT.

Although it isn't a must, it's great to be proactive, especially since it is a work place and you will not be spoon-fed. Makes sure you want to learn as this will show your peers and leaders that you are competent and are willing to work hard at work
