  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of working on projects and providing business analysis services which includes aspects like gathering requirements, stakeholder management etc. As well as this I am the administrator for a local collection of SharePoint sites and I am also a knowledge advisor for our site in regards to SharePoint.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have done a bit of both, the course I am on built on things that I already knew and work and college has brought in some other aspects that I was unfamiliar with, in terms of new skills I have learnt how to manage my workload and prioritise and for existing skills I have learnt the "standard" way to do things that I already did at work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a lot as it is teaching me skills that I can directly relate to my work, therefore you have more motivation to want to do well as it will give you clear benefits. It meets what my expectations were as it is a lot of work but it is also rewarding

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been very well strucutred as I have been on placements that have been directly linked to what I am doing at college, for example if I was learning about the impact of social media then I would spend some time with the community relations manager as I can then get some work placed experience on what I am doing at college.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieve a lot of support from my employer, they understand that you need to achieve a work life balance. We have a helpful HR department and there are two assigned apprentice mentors within the learning and development department. As well as this you will also be assigned a mentor who is a current apprentice so you can learn from them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I recieve a good level of support from my training provider as I am assigned a skills coach who I can use to review college work and I also have a 6-weekly review with my skills coach. In terms of guidance with problems with college I can refer to my apprentice managers or the support team at college.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that my qualification helps me in my role a lot as it provides clarity on what techniques I should be using at work. As it happens most of the things on the course are similar to what I already do at work but the course refines those things to make you better at your job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes we often have events set up by our community team such as bowling nights etc. Also within work we offer the oppertunity to volunteer in the local community for example recently we turned one of our labs into an environment for secondary school pupils to attend and learn more about what we do and to get a insight into a career at Syngenta.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Syngenta to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As my overall experience of being in the company has been good so far and I believe that I am in a much better place then I would be if I went to college as I have a clear career path and I am also earning whilst I am learning

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Syngenta?
  • I would suggest to do your research on the company beofrehand to get an idea of what we do, I would also suggest to be completely honest in your interview because integrity is a core value of working here, due to the nature of the work we don;t want dishonest people.
