  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • During my time as an apprentice fitter I will be going around the business, to various placements on different types of aircraft so I can experience the build process for the jets and build my skills and knowledge as a fitter.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes definitely, I have learnt new fitting skills and learned how components on the aircraft are assembled and put together. I have built my character up as a person and working with a team and individually.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy all of my programme, including all the activities you can do as part of the scheme and what you learn throughout the scheme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it is very structured, with daily checkups in your placement by the assessors and always being around people who are willing to help you at any time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • During the daily check ups and reviews you are offered additional help if you are struggling and any problems, you can ask you manager or line supervisor and they will do everything possible to make sure you receive the help

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have college once a week, with opportunities to move to a higher level of education such as the HNC and HND in aerospace engineering. Any help you need is available such as extra help with subjects.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications we are doing help us understand the job we are doing, allowing us to see in more depth in why we do certain tasks, which help towards the skills we need to gain

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There's always opportunities arising to do more then just the path layed out for you apprenticeship, including chances to go around the business and experience different opportunities.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The opportunities you have are amazing and with so much flexibility in the business, you can succeed and grow in many different areas of the business. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Don't be afraid to be bold and try out new ideas, which the company encourages and makes use of with. Try to stand out from the crowd
