  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • the apprenticeship scheme is an amazing scheme to do as you get all the support you need as well as the experience. The work you are expected to do can be challenging but it is worth it to get the experience and the help from the instructors is there when its needed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to become more confident in myself and other people, I never thought I would be able to do the things I have done in one year and even now. I have made myself proud by completing the first year and surprised myself as I didn't realise I could do the things I have done.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the first year to an extent however it was stressful to meet all the standards and due dates for the work. However the help and support is there when it is needed. There were parts of the first year and second year placements that I didn't like however I learned to get on even if I don't choose this career in the long run.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the programme is organised however can be slow, for example organising reviews. but this isn't to say that the programme is bad, it gets very hectic looking after a lot of apprentices and the staff are always there when we need them. it is also well structured in picking our placements aswell.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all the support I need, this means that whenever I have a problem which needs sorting out, or a question, my supervisor is always there to help me. This is the same as the staff at the ASK. I can email and they will always get back to me when they can.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When in my placement we have reviews we need to do and evidence work for our qualification, which means we need support from our trainers and assessors. Because these staff are never around with us, we can email. They always make sure they get back to us quickly and provide the support we need.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Because I need evidence for my NVQ, it means that I need the experience for the evidence. This increases my experience in the job role in the placement and therefore in creases my confidence out in the business whilst helping me work towards my NVQ. It also means I can talk to others about my work and they can gain an understanding of what my NVQ involves.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We do have a lot of extra curricular activities to take part in, these can include things such as the choir, football teams, social activities in the placement, a skiing club etc.. there are a lot of activities to take part in and join if you are looking for a team or activity outside of work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The apprenticeship program is a great way to build confidence and experience in the key skills of whatever you want to do as a career. The support is always there from trainers and even colleagues if and when it is needed. It is one of the best places to get an apprenticeship in my opinion.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • My advise would be to write everything you have done in your life which would look good on a CV and not to panic in the interview as it isn't as bad as it seems. The apprenticeship is very good and quite chilled for anyone who is slightly nervous. Its a very nice environment of people.
