  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Full time merchandising administrator role alongside the course (of which the majority of modules fit closely with your role and development). Daily tasks range from forecasting and ordering to managing stakeholder and supplier relationships via email, phone and conference calls. Reporting upon weekly sales data within my category for both range and promotional products.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Lots of training courses on offer, I have been on courses ranging from 'presenting with confidence' to a 2 day negotiator course with the gap partnership (highly rated across the industry), I have regular 1 to 1's with colleagues of varying levels about different areas of my progression. Lots of excel courses available for all areas (big part of the role so usually highly popular).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The course content chosen for us (picked specifically to match with roles), learning coach and group fit well and I fell like I'm developing at a fast rate. I wasn't sure what to expect from the programme, but there is plenty of scope for development for anyone who wants it. If you do not enjoy your role there is scope to move between teams and between merchandising/buying

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • learn direct learning coach is highly responsive to emails. There are modular catch ups (two or three tasks in a modular - last about 10 weeks) and in depth feedback of every course task draft before final submit to maximise grades and lower the stress of the process. Coach is experienced and knowledgeable upon the course modules; focusing on stretching our understanding and development while completing tasks (as they are closely linked to our roles).

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • They allow time off work to support the general course as well as being flexible around any courses you would like to complete (both in terms of cost of course and time taken on course) and are very open to allowing development/training in different areas of the business. Connections are everything; I set up meetings with people from different areas to discus their roles and how our roles interlink

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • A very good starting salary that meets my needs, with good opportunities in the medium and longer term for development. Area relatively expensive to live in, but I'm renting relatively reasonably in Welwyn (5 mins from office). Because office is Welwyn Garden City and not London based there is a lot lower combined cost of rental accommodation and commuting costs

  • Excellent on site gym that has a variety of classes including a whole room dedicated to spin classes (also new outside 3g pitch), some larger company events (e.g Christmas ball) and then smaller in team events. Lots's of different 5 to 11 a side football teams in place that run most nights of the week in the local area with teams from across the business
