  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction took place generally in first year however we have inductions at the start of each placement. We have constant meetings including the 12 weekly reviews. The hierarchy doesn't change with apprentices due to the fact we move placements on a regular basis. They support further education including supporting my application to continue this after my apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Overall the salary more than covers my living costs including my travel costs and daily/social costs. I also believe it is highly competitive with other apprenticeships in the North West

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • as part of the company I have completed my STEM Ambassador training and the company has supported me visiting schools and colleges to run sessions from presentations to market stalls. During national apprentice week we are given the opportunity to volunteer and spend a few days helping a charity from doing work around the grounds of a home for the elderly or working at Rainbow Legacy House. The company has many clubs, such as the golfing society, football competitions including an apprentice team! They often hold seminars during lunch times for employees to gain further knowledge in various aspects for example the physio based at warton talked about common issues with your spine due to how you work and sit.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a long term job and one of the biggest employers in the North West of England. It has a highly competitive salary compared to many companies in the UK and the company are very supportive as mentioned above. There are not many companies that can or would allow someone time off to go and umpire and hockey event! I feel looked after at the company and enjoy my apprenticeship even though my time is drawing to an end.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • ensure you take your time when filling in the questions and note it doesn't necessarily have spelling and grammar check on the application. only talk about the truth and have the supporting evidence if you get and interview. Stay calm at the interview the BAE Systems employees who undertake the interviews have done this for a number of years and are very good at helping you relax and staying calm. Take any opportunities you can in and outside of school/work/college and use these in your answers. Personally I used my involvement in the community for my application.
