  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to maintain Thames water assets and I am involved with electrical and mechanical maintenance on Thames Water.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My communication skills are growing all the time because communication through the team is vital. Thames are always putting you through in house causes based on health and safety and various other skills that help you develop as well as doing great college qualifications.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • You never do the same thing every day which keeps your morale high and you do not get bored. So I would personally say I really enjoy what I do right now. All the people that work here are helpful and friendly to which makes you fell comfortable.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Thames Water?
  • Thames have a massive focus on apprentices, their aim is to train the next generation of engineers. You're involved a lot of the time with projects and can always ask to go on various jobs to hit criteria.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Everything is very organised. College, jobs you are going to be involved with and your study programme.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider is always there if needed. You have various ways of contacting them as well.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Thames have many means of supporting apprentices, My manager is very supportive with development and always helps with issues I have. My mentor is great too with supporting any issues that I may be experiencing.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I could use more money for living costs as anyone could, London is very expensive to live. Thames pay expenses so travel cost is minimal. Daily costs are okay and social costs are okay. On the whole, I think Thames apprentice pay is good but not as good as everyone would like.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, many opportunities for volunteering and team building.

  • 9. Would you recommend Thames Water to a friend?
  • Yes

  • Its great for experience, development and fantastic for learning this part of engineering.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thames Water?
  • Get involved with as much as you can day to day. put all the effort you can into write ups and college work and it will pay off when you get a better grade in the end than some apprentices around you, making you more attractive to take on in the end.
