1st year is mostly at college for foundation workshop work and HE engineering, basically foundation degree. in the term time holidays we are in plant with our departments
So I have used turning lathes to produce components, CNC coded to produce components and completely stripped and rebuilt petrol engines. The academic side is on going with tests and assignments set periodically.
The workshop work is engaging and made good fun. The relationship with classmates/ colleagues developed really quickly.
Two JLR Work based learning managers (WBLM) full Time in college and staff designated to looking after JLR apprentices, Receive frequent emails from JLR like normal employees. At least quarterly visits from managers in charge of all apprentices and the apprentice program.
This is down the the college and could be improved in places but they are very flexible and open to ideas about change. Some of our previous suggestions have been acted on quickly. Have progression meetings with WBLMs every few months. There is always help if you ask for it.
Full time in term time so this is very supportive in the first year.
Managers are in often but there is not too much contact time with them, but if any questions are raised JLRinfo staff they are acted on well. Our department manager is very responsive in any emails we send him and is active in keeping us well informed.
Very well. The salary is generous, but well deserved. Travel costs are easily covered and there is plenty left after any other costs for saving for the future. There are frequent pay rises so that we finish on similar salary to graduates. All tuition fees are paid for by JLR.
Not so much, unless organised with in employees. Many due to not being on sites during the first year.
Yes
Amazing place to work and learn. Feel 'part of the team' and valued. Also paid well and supported the whole way.
Take time with the application, Properly read through online tests and take your time. The interview day is hard to prepare for but will involve team tasks, practical task, problem solving and interview of sorts.
