  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I worked in the finance office at Truro college doing business administration work. This envolved me doing things like scanning invoices and making sure that they were recorded onto the system. I also did some work collecting and counting money from a vending machine and I had to make sure that the money collected from the vending machine matched the online system. I interacted a lot with people within the finance office. Each day I did something different for example, I scanned a lot of invoices in one day and did cashier work on another day. I didn't interact with people outside the office. My main responsibility was to be organised.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The people i worked with are very nice and made me feel like a part of their team. The actual work i did wasn't very fun but it did give me more of an insight into how working in a finance office will be like. The work experience i had went exactly how i expected it to go.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The team showed me how to do things like scanning and expected me to do this on my own and if i had questions, the team were happy to answer them. Each day, i had a different person supervising me as there were people doing different roles within the finance office. Some of the days, they struggled to look for work for me to do as there wasn't much i could be doing as i didn't have the sufficient training. Overall, it was organised

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • besides the finance office, Truro college has a leisure centre on campus. It is a 5-15 minute bus journey from the campus to the town centre. When i wasn't working i had a lunch break and in that, i just sat down somewhere, ate my food and went on my phone.

  • 9. Would you recommend Truro College to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It gives a good insight into what working in a finance office would be like and it also made me realise how much the finance office has to deal with and organise for example, the college organise a lot of school trips aboard and the finance office has to process this data.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Truro College?
  • Mention things that will make the employer appeal to you. Send out a lot of applications to employers you would want to work for. I handed out about 7 applications and i got rejected by all of them. i eventually contacted a cousin who works in the finance office and she helped me get a placement there. It helps if you know people working in the sector you want to do a work experience in.
