  • Engineering degree apprentice. One day a week at college working towards a degree in electronic and computer engineering. Four days working on site on engineering projects doing software, hardware and systems

  • There's a lot of professional development and opportunities to work on your soft skills as well as gain new skills such as leadership and management

  • It's varied and you can tailor the apprenticeship depending on your preferred type of engineering. You can give everything a go then specialise so what you do on a daily basis is enjoyable because you find what interests you

  • GE is a massive company. It's hard not to feel like a number when you look at the bigger picture. However you are valued within the apprenticeship and project managers value you

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It's still a fairly new program and things are being tweaked but there's a distinct structure to each year of the apprenticeship so you know what you'll get out of it long term.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider is Gloucestershire College, there is often problems and miscommunication. This is trying to be improved. The lecturers are ok.

  • We are often reminded of the huge support network available to us at GE. It is there when we need it.

  • Very well

  • Yes

  • You gain a lot from the apprenticeship scheme. The salary is good, no student debts. Chance for progression within the company and option to work in different GE sectors


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE (General Electric)?
  • Get work experience there. it'll show you a lot about the company but also it'll help you decide if it's something you want to go into.
