The role was to process images for an online booklet based on a print booklet that had already been printed. The role also involved general image processing in Adobe Photoshop. A minor part of the role was to search for potential clients online and gather their contact details.
This work experience helped me develop my Photoshop skills immensely. Before the work experience I had very basic Photoshop skills but after the experience I had improved a lot and felt a lot more confident in my abilities to use Photoshop and process images.
I really enjoyed my work experience it gave me a chance to explore a possible career path. Even though I did not chose this career path, I really enjoyed the day to day work of the profession I chose to carry out my work experience in.
During my time on work experience I felt like a valued member of the team. Even though I was only there for a short period, I was made to feel part of the time and made to feel that I was doing an important job.
The programme could have been more organised. Because the programme was conducted through my school we only knew about the place we would be working at shortly before the experience starting. We had very little debrief after the work experience so I had no way of consolidating my experience and learning that I had done on work experience.
My school were extremely supportive, they provided us with contact details to use in case we had any problems during our work experience. As a person with extra needs o felt that these were considered and I was supported appropriately
The employer was really supportive, they helped with and understood my additional needs from the very beginning. The employer was open and always willing to help with any issues I had while I was there.
Because this was unpaid, all of the costs had to come out of pocket, therefore this made it difficult to do more than a couple of weeks work experience. This meant I had to pay for transport, as well as any food or drink this really added up, I would have wanted to do more experience but I couldn't afford to.
There were no opportunities outside of the work environment. The placement involved working 9-5 and then going home. It would have been good to have more opportunities such as networking time which could of helped me further my career.
Yes
Even though I didn't chose a career in the area I did work experience. It helped clarify in my mind what I wanted to do. It allowed me an opportunity to grow my confidence and develop my skills, all while having fun and enjoying the experience.
Just go out and do it, I really enjoyed going to my work experience. I would advise people to take every opportunity they are offered and where possible make your own opportunities in fields you are interested in.
