  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role was to process images for an online booklet based on a print booklet that had already been printed. The role also involved general image processing in Adobe Photoshop. A minor part of the role was to search for potential clients online and gather their contact details.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This work experience helped me develop my Photoshop skills immensely. Before the work experience I had very basic Photoshop skills but after the experience I had improved a lot and felt a lot more confident in my abilities to use Photoshop and process images.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Web Windows?
  • During my time on work experience I felt like a valued member of the team. Even though I was only there for a short period, I was made to feel part of the time and made to feel that I was doing an important job.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme could have been more organised. Because the programme was conducted through my school we only knew about the place we would be working at shortly before the experience starting. We had very little debrief after the work experience so I had no way of consolidating my experience and learning that I had done on work experience.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Because this was unpaid, all of the costs had to come out of pocket, therefore this made it difficult to do more than a couple of weeks work experience. This meant I had to pay for transport, as well as any food or drink this really added up, I would have wanted to do more experience but I couldn't afford to.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There were no opportunities outside of the work environment. The placement involved working 9-5 and then going home. It would have been good to have more opportunities such as networking time which could of helped me further my career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Web Windows?
  • Just go out and do it, I really enjoyed going to my work experience. I would advise people to take every opportunity they are offered and where possible make your own opportunities in fields you are interested in.
