It was a work experience program with the Police Service of Northern Ireland. It was mostly a series of demonstrations and lessons plus a field trip to see what it was like to be a Police Officer.
There weren't any skills as such apart some employability skills on looking presentable and turning up on time. The most useful skill was CV writing and employability advice.
I did enjoy it all the staff who were with us were really friendly and took the time to answer all our questions and give us some really honest advice that I think helped in later years.
The feedback I got at the end was very detailed and helpful and made me feel as if they had spent time on it. This made me feel as if they really valued my participation in the program.
Extremely well organised. We always knew where we were supposed to be and when in addition when something fell through there was always a seamless backup plan.
Again I received a lot of support in terms of advice and presentations on employability. Due to the nature of the work experience program training was not really possible for obvious reasons.
The staff involved could not do enough to help you and were always available for advice if you wanted it whether it be on applying to the police or elsewhere.
There was not a salary so I can't really comment on this but the one for the police does look good with a very nice pension scheme so I would very satisfied with it.
They didn't really elaborate on this side of policing which perhaps was a pretty big omission but in terms of the program we were allowed out for a generous period at lunch so that was good.
Yes
Just to gain an insight into what the police do and their various operations on a daily basis. I found it really interesting even though I didn't go on to join the police I have much more respect for what they do.
Go for it as far as I know there was no real application process for it when I was on it. My teacher arranged everything. So maybe ask and see where it takes you.
