I observed different vets in consultations and during procedures. I also beans required to do cleaning of kennels and surgical instruments in addition to the general day to day cleaning.
Yes definitely. I've learned how to pack surgical instruments for the autoclave machine, learnt a lot about how small animals are kept, I've learned about common diseases that affect small animals and simples treatments.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were quiet days that dragged a little bit but generally I've loved it.
Very valued. Since I've left and gone to university, they've kept in contact with me and are always willing to give me extra help and have me back for extra placements. During the experience, they were all very encouraging and grateful for my help and always explained things to me that I didn't understand, they were very patient.
It was a little bit random. I sort of just turned up on the day and did what I was told. That's expected though in the veterinary field.
Lots. Always explained things to make sure I always understood and never made me feel inadequate. Whenever I did things wrong they were very understanding and simply helped me get it right as opposed to telling me off.
I met him a few times and on those occasions he was very good with me. He really encouraged me about my careers aspirations.
I didn't get paid but it was still worth the effort because what I learnt there was just amazing.
Not necessarily linked but I did get on a different placement that one of the vets suggested to me. They help you with outside opportunities if you ask but it's not direct.
Yes
Everyone at this surgery is so nice. No one puts you down, they're all so willing to help you and teach. Also it's fun!
Be prepared because it can be a bit grim and manky at times, you'll be covered in poo and blood and urine!
