  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an apprentice technician working in RF development. This means I am involved in the development and test of new RF products for the company. Within my job I have daily interactions with operators, technicians, engineers and management.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt and developed lots of new skills including, design, production engineering, reading engineering drawings, communication, confidence and managing my own work load. All of the skills I have developed will be very beneficial for me in the future and will help with the development of my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the apprenticeship scheme I am part of. The scheme is well organised and the college is good. The company is very good to work for and all the people I am currently working with and have worked with in the past are very friendly and helpful.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Teledyne/E2V?
  • Yes. I currently work in a very small that has a high workload. This means I am always busy and feel I am greatly supporting the team as they always have things for me to do. The apprenticeship scheme holds a yearly awards night to give out awards and recognise the work the apprentices do.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The scheme is well structure. Our manager has lots of interaction with our college and is always available to help and contact the college for us. Also if we need support you can go and ask him anytime.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The college is very supportive. If there is ever an issue with some of the work that has been completed feedback will be given when asked for. However on certain units the marking of our work was completed very slowly.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is always lots of support from our employer. Our manager will always make himself available if you have a problem. He also is good at communicating with the college we attend if there are any issues. Whenever I have been to the HR department they have always been very helpful and have always had the answers to any questions. I receive well structured support from my mentor and placement manager. We have monthly performance reviews so I know how much progress I have made against my targets.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel the salary is very good. Considering I am getting paid and having my qualifications paid for the wage is very fair. There is also a structured pay rise system whilst within the apprenticeship scheme.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes. Recently a group of other apprentices and me took part in something called the Brathay Challenge. This was supported by the company and gave us the opportunity to interact with people from outside our company and in the local community. The apprentices are all very social and we often do things outside of work together.

  • 9. Would you recommend Teledyne/E2V to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The scheme is well structured and the work is interesting and challenging. During the scheme you are given the opportunity to work in many different areas and development an array of skills.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teledyne/E2V?
  • The application process contains submitting a CV and applying for the job. After this you will be asked to complete a video interview which involves you answering questions and the response being recorded and then viewed. After this an assessment day is held, this is to see how you work in a team and interact with people. There is also an interview and some tests.
