I'm a mechanical/electrical technician in the Structural Testing Labs for JLR. I maintain/manufacture electrical/hydraulic equipment to keep the laboratory running smoothly.
Yes, having worked only briefly in the motor vehicle production industry prior to my apprenticeship, I've picked up and honed a wide array of skills that I put to use in my job role.
The programme is thoroughly enjoyable, the cohort is full of decent people and my future colleagues are all welcoming, and contribute towards an inviting workplace atmosphere
Very valued, my concerns once voiced are heard and suitably actioned, and support is available for a number of reasons spanning both personal and professional.
The JLR structure of the overall apprenticeship is bulletproof, however it is being let down by third party organisations entrusted with carrying out the academic instruction and tuition of the apprentices.
Most members of staff are very supportive, however some have been dumped with classloads following the departure of some staff from the college and so can't provide as high a level of tuition/support as they otherwise would have.
Managers and work based learning managers are all supportive and helpful when any issue raised. I work in an environment filled with other apprentices and ex apprentices who offer support and help when I need it.
Its generous for an apprenticeship but as a homeowner it is sometimes difficult to make ends meet
Yeah, volunteer schemes are supported and encouraged by the company to be undertaken during working times
Yes
They're a good company and the advanced engineering apprenticeship scheme is a robust example of a holistic and fleshed out approach to engineering apprenticeships, with the potential to go on and study at a university level.
Approach the process with an open mind, dress suitably for any face-to-face stage of the application process, and be yourself and do your best, which is all anyone can ask for.
