  • My role is to contact my clients by phone and to engage in conversation around our services and ensure that the client is up to date on everything.

  • I have developed my listening skills and become involved in lots of new activities

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I learnt a lot on the programme but I did come in early before my shift to complete the online element.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Barclays?
  • Not very, there has been no contact from anyone in Barclays to see how we are finding the programme and if we are on track. I know we have Talent Coaches, however their meetings with us can be monthly and too long has passed if there is an issue. Even just an email from Barclays would have made me feel more supported.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As we are the first to go on this programme, I knew there would be things that could be changed for the next people. There seemed to be no knowledge of how things would be finished off and we have only just received notification of how we will complete our gateway of evidence for the end of the sign off.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • When we were able to see the Talent Coach we had the support, it needs to have a proper structure of meetings booked in at regular intervals to give better support. This was an issue of needing to be on the phones.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We had development days once every six weeks, this was hard to learn a new role and study. I came in my own time to complete a lot of my online training.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salry is low for the role we do and the level of the qualification we will achieve. There is potential to move into other roles in the future but not sure how much influence the qualification will be within Barclays when comparing candidates.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • With the shift pattern I work, it makes it difficult to engage in things outside of work and can impact work life balance. Not really sure what this question is relating to, do you mean homelife or job opportunities>

  • 9. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I worked for Barclays since leaving school at 16 and for almost 40 years. Then had 2 years off and now i'm back. I have seen many changes in the bank but they do have a brilliant renumeration package and I have become an Empathy leader which is a massive step forward for staff engagment.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Understand the role and expectations fully, ask questions if you are not sure. You will be coming into a Bank that supports development and you are the one who is in the driving seat with your career. If you want to go to different parts of the Bank, you can and if you want to go for promotions, work hard,use your development days and you can achieve your goal.
