  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • This course entails working your way through all the different roles within the branch. Starting with the essential role (cashier), doing simple money transactions, transfers queries etc. Then you move onto the moment (personal banker) role in which you help customers with bigger issues. You can apply for loans and insurance, open bank accounts and give more guidance on business/mortgage queries. Then after this, when your knowledge is wealthy, you then move into a managerial role within the branch, learning for the future. Alongside the daily work, you go to university 6/7 weeks a year to study Leadership and Management BA Hons which you will receive at the end of the three years.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed communication skills with people I have never spoken to. I am able to approach customers with confidence instead of them approaching me first. My team work skills and also leader skills have been built upon massively.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Love it because you get the best of both worlds. If you are struggling between an apprenticeship and university, this is the course.

  • As an apprentice, very.

  • Very well structured - get study block and assignment dates very early on. Rotations within branch are clearly expressed too.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Lots. Not just face to face with managers but they have set up mentors from previous years who can help.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots. Being on this course offers a lot of training time and intimate discussion with other colleagues due to moving around roles.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For an 18 year old's first proper job it pays very sufficient.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yep! University offers the CMI in which you can go out to talks and meet managers from other companies

  • Yes

  • This course specifically, because of the experience, degree and training with managers.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Don't give up and be enthusiastic. It is difficult so you need to be very motivated.
