  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a commercial apprentice my daily tasks include communicating with customers, drafting contractual documents and attending prospect meetings for possible projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained IT, first aid and leadership qualifications in addition to the Business Management Level 3 I will receive when I finish. I have also attended internal course on estimating.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot, all teams have been helpful and welcoming. The company has adhered to my expectations of developing apprentices very well.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • I feel very valued as I have been nominated and won awards for my efforts and therefore I feel my work is appreciated. I also get recognition from the team when I complete work to a high standard.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well organised as we have a 2 week induction and many training course to get us started. We can also attend workshops to help us with our NVQ work. However, we sometimes do not know when and where our next placement will be which is less organised.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive support from different areas such as placement manager, NVQ assessor and line manager. I know I can go to each different person with different problems I may have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have never needed to go to any HR with any problems but I feel I would be comfortable to do so should I have any problems and I believe other people have been to them and it has been dealt with well.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary meets my costs very well, I can live comfortably but it also covers all my bills and we get an additional travel cost added on which helps with paying for petrol.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes there are many opportunities outside of work. I have taken part in many charity events but also STEM events which is to promote our company.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think the opportunities and work experience you receive is one of the best available. Also for the work we do and the age that we are I think you would struggle to find somewhere that pays as well as BAE.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • I would give advice to start your application very in advance as it is a hard process to get right. I would just advise to be themselves and take any opportunity that comes their way.
