1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My course lasts for 3 years. The first year I am a trainee merchandiser, the second a trainee buyer and the third I get to choose out of the two to carry on my career with. My day to day tasks involve running reports and analysing data to outline department performance. I interact with fellow merchandisers and also buyers to get orders processed and new products registered on the system. I also communicate with suppliers to resolve any problems.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

With my programme I am also studying for an NVQ Level 4 diploma in Buying and Merchandising at the Fashion Retail Academy. This allows me to learn in a formal manner as well as on the job. I have learnt leadkership skills such as innovation and collobaration which allows me to work in an efficent manner. I have also developed exisiting skills such as computer programmes excel and photoshop. Training courses and masterclasses are also available to me which allow me to develop myself as a person as well as in a business manner.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme to a large extent due to working in a fast oaced business. Working in fashion allows me to use my own knowledge and opinions meaning I enjoy what I do. Evryone in the office is very kind and supportive and helps me in my work and college learning.

My prgramme is very well structured. Information about the programme is clearly informed to candidates during the interview process and constantly once they join the business. Mentors are encouraged amd training is organised making organising myself and my work very easy.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

I recieve a lot of support in my role. This comes in a number of ways. At college I am able to learn outside of the office and have regular catchups with my tutor. My training provider also brings in speakers from outside of the college which gives me the best possible resource to learn from.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I recieve a lot of support from my employer in the form or regular catch ups with my manager and head of department. My HR rep occassionally meets with me to check I am still enjoying the programme. My manager, the team and the business as a whole respect me and my development as much as they do the results in the business.

My salary is very well valued for my role and allows me to live well. I had to relocate to start my time at the business and the wage has allowed me to easily do this.

There are many oppurtunities outside of work such as sports teams, social societies and charity events. I have already represented the prgramme by visiting schools to tell them about it.
