My role is to maintain machinery and equipment across the whole site. This includes installation and commissioning, planned preventative maintenance and breakdown maintenance. I am on an electrical pathway so I mostly deal with electrical equipment although I do get involved with the mechanical side too.
I have learnt many electrical skills and qualifications which have been beneficial to my performance at work as well as at home. These skills are excellent as they can be transferred to other roles in the future.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as the colleagues I work with are friendly and always willing to help. The work content is interesting as is the course. Overall the programme has gone beyond my expectations and I am very lucky to be where I am.
I feel very valued by Jaguar Land Rover. My manager recognises my work and is always keen to help me if required. I have been recognised externally with an apprentice of the year award which contributed to me feeling extremely valued as an apprentice.
The programme is fairly well organised and structured. The contents is sufficient however the modules and timetables seem to always be very last minute which doesn't leave much planning time for projects and other tasks at work. I feel although this works it could be improved.
I have a meeting with my training provider every six weeks or so and he is available sooner should I require a meeting. If I do have any problems I can phone or email him regarding the problem and talk to him face to face if required. I haven't encountered any major problems but the small issues have always been sorted quickly.
My employer and colleagues are always there to help me if required. I feel comfortable enough in my department to ask for help if I am unsure of anything. This is encouraged as it helps me to learn and become the best I can be.
The salary is very competitive. Fortunately for me I am relatively local to my place of work so it meets my needs well. It is great to be able to be paid while learning skills.
There are many discounts available for employees of Jaguar Land Rover including restaurants and health clubs. A scheme is also available called the Employee Learning Scheme (ELS). This is where the company will pay up to £200 for you to learn a new skill. This could be anything from golf to car drifting.
Yes
It is a pleasure to work for JLR with many benefits available. The pay is very good considering you are still learning and the opportunities to progress after the apprenticeship are endless.
The application process can be daunting. You will have an on line application and if successful you will have to complete psychometric tests. If successful you will then be invited to an assessment day consisting of group activities and an interview. Just be yourself and do your best.
