  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There is a lot of flexibility in the programme I am on in terms of the role and so that aspect is not structured. However, the programme is very well organised with lots of documentation and also a schedule for all of the training and when it should be completed by. There are also lots of leadership to ensure everything is completed on time and that we are getting everything we require.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support at IBM. I have an Early Professionals Manager who provides support for my apprenticeship and training. I also have a task manager who is my day to day manager that supports me in my role, that provides me with on the job work and tasks. I also have a buddy that is an older apprentice who is there to support me in all aspects of my role. If i have a problem i can speak to anyone and they will support me, including those mentioned but also any other EPM or person on the project i work on. There are also people partners for each part of the company who are there to support in finding appropriate roles and ensure we are getting good experience.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of opportunities outside of work. There are lots of company events, many for networking and socialising which is a brilliant opportunity to make friends but also create a helpful network to help me in my work. There are voluntary activities in the form of 'give back' which is what IBM call it. There are sports clubs and teams although i choose not to involve myself in these as im not very sporty. There is also an IBM club which offers theatre tickets, sports tickets etc. at reduced prices which helps in activities completely outside of work in affording them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would certainly recommend friends and anyone looking for a career in the technology industry due to the vast amount of opportunities there are here. Not only just in the roles and the apprenticeship but in the wider company and the activities outside of the day job, e.g. the social aspect. IBM provides a lot of support and a salary that is exceptional for someone of my age.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • I would definitely advise to only apply if you are a flexible character open to travel as the job can require travelling around and living away from home - but this is super fun and means you can see different places of the country or even the world. I would also say to be really honest and yourself in your application, they want to get to know you and whether you would suit the company because that is so important - you must fit the company and the company must fit you!!
