During your apprenticeship you’ll study for a recognised technology qualification. And what’s even better is this learning is complemented by on-the-job training on real projects. So you can start to develop your career from day one.
The opportunity we are offering involves working with more experienced developers in Agile development teams to help build Java applications for CGI clients, including:
- Developing good quality Java code with sound syntax Developing professional user interfaces for at least one channel (web and/or mobile)
- Effectively link code to the database using SQL and/or data layer technologies
- Test: Can test code using either V-model manual testing and using unit testing.
- Problem solving: Can debug own code and understand structure of programmes in order to identify and resolve issues
- Basic Design: Following best practices and standards can create simple data models and software designs to effectively communicate understanding of the programme
Due to the nature of our business, you work on ‘projects’. This means you’re never doing the same thing and you can have different roles across various projects, so there is no ‘typical day’. It also may mean you are working from your base office, on client site, in another CGI office or sometimes from home. It really does vary at CGI. And that’s the exciting thing, it really is up to you to shape and develop your career in the direction you want to go with the support of others.
To have or be predicated to achieve at least 64 UCAS points across two A-Levels (or equivalent) at grade C or above (excluding General Studies) including a computing/IT/STEM subject gained in the same academic year or a completed Advanced IT Apprenticeship. Also a minimum of five A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent), including English, Maths and Science.

Due to UK Government security requirements we are only able to accept applications from candidates who have the unrestricted right to live and work in the United Kingdom, and have lived in the United Kingdom for a minimum of 5 years with no breaks of 28 days or more. Our School Leaver Programmes are designed for candidates with A-Levels (or equivalent e.g. Scottish Nationals, BTEC etc) who do not yet have a degree. If you are working towards a degree, or already have one, please see our Industrial Placement and Graduate Programmes.
