About Laing O'Rourke

We are Laing O'Rourke. We design, manufacture, engineer and build iconic buildings and complex infrastructure projects used by millions of people every day. We're challenging the industry with innovative design and delivery techniques. We're changing the way we work, using the very latest digital tools and platforms.

Building Services Engineering Programme

Building Services focuses on the equipment and systems that run within a building. Today, these are increasingly sophisticated as we help create more intelligent buildings that are safe and secure, respond to occupants, use less resources and are more sensitive to the environment. We look at all areas of heating, water, electrical and telecoms systems, and we’re involved in the design, installation and maintenance of systems.

Is this you?

Building Services is all focused on the workings of a building. So you need to be fascinated by how these different services work, especially the mechanical and electrical aspects of engineering. It will also be important how you work with others and manage aspects of work.

What to study?

Maths and Science are important to becoming a building services engineer, both at GCSE and A level. But you’ll also need good IT and planning skills.

A five-year programme that combines academic learning with on-the-job training. Successful candidates will complete a fully funded accredited day-release HNC and/or degree in their chosen area of interest while working as a Laing O’Rourke employee. The programme also includes a series of in-house modules, aimed at exposing you to the latest developments in construction and engineering. Your personal and professional growth will be supported throughout the programme using career planning toolkits and tailored development plans. During the programme you will work across a range of businesses and projects, which will offer the breadth and variety to support your career progression and will contribute towards your professional development.
