Quantity Surveying Programme

A Quantity Surveyor is one of the most important roles in any construction project. We manage all the costs relating to building projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. Our job is to manage the costs of any project and make sure we get value for money, as well as making sure that everything is done to the right standards and quality. So it involves drafting and negotiating contracts, as well as analysing profitability.

Is this you?

Quantity surveying requires a practical and logical mind, as well as the ability to solve problems. There is a high level of numeracy and financial management involved, and we’ll expect you to learn how to use various technologies to help you. In all, you need a good mix of analysing detail, working with others and being commercial.

What to study?

Maths and Science are important, both at GCSE and A level. But you’ll also need good IT and planning skills.

A five-year programme that combines academic learning with on-the-job training. Successful candidates will complete a fully funded accredited day-release HNC and/or degree in their chosen area of interest while working as a Laing O’Rourke employee.
