About Network Rail
Network Rail is at the heart of revitalising Britain’s railway. From Crossrail – Europe’s largest civil engineering project – to investment in world-class stations and major programmes of electrification, we’re involved in some of the most ambitious and diverse ventures that this country has ever seen. We’re building the railway of the future. It’s a colossal challenge. And we’re relishing every moment. We’re hoping you’ll choose to join us and help turn our plans into reality; to create a world-class railway and really make a difference to rail travel in Britain.
Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship with Network Rail
Join us for three fascinating, surprising and career-advancing years as an apprentice.
Expert training, thousands of pounds in your pocket and a lifetime of engineering possibilities. When you're transforming Britain's vast railway network, you get more than just an education. You'll gain the kind of skills that can set you up for life.
What you’ll be doing
We’re vital to Britain’s future success, which means we could play a big part in yours. Network Rail looks after 20,000 miles of track, 40,000 bridges and viaducts, and thousands of signals and level crossings.
In your first 21 weeks you’ll be one of 150 apprentices living and learning at Westwood, our world-class training facility. The rest of your scheme will be spent working from a depot close to home. Specialising in electrification and plant, overhead lines, signalling, telecoms, track or off track, you’ll receive expert training.
How we’ll reward you
An Advanced Apprenticeship means the chance to earn a real wage while you learn.
We pay you £8,618 during your first year, plus £1,150 for successful completion. During your 21 week residential stay at Westwood we’ll pay for your accommodation, three meals a day (brunch and dinner on Sundays), your work clothing and personal safety equipment.
This rises to £12,055 in the second year and £14,364 in the third year.
On top of this, you’ll get 28 days holidays, plus bank holidays.
Eligibility for our apprenticeship scheme
The Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme at Network Rail is open to anyone who will be aged 18 on or before 16 March 2018. There’s no upper age limit.
You’ll need at least four GCSEs at A*–C (or four Scottish National’s at Level 5 or equivalent). This must include Maths, English and a Science or Engineering subject.
You will need to be available to start on 17 March 2018. Please note you will be unable to take holiday during the first 21 weeks of the scheme outside of scheduled holiday dates.
