London Underground Engineering

From the first journey made on the world’s first underground railway on 9 January 1863 – which stretched just four miles of track between two stations – to today’s network that stretches over 253 miles, serves 275 stations and carries more than three million passengers per day, London Underground has played an essential role in the development of our Capital.

London Underground is currently upgrading part of its network and this is an exciting opportunity for you to become an apprentice on one of the most technologically advanced railways in the world.

During your apprenticeship, you’ll follow an exclusive training programme at our Engineering & Skills Academy at Acton Town. You’ll learn the core skills needed to work safely on our network and gain a basic foundation in aspects of railway engineering. If you demonstrate the right attitude, aptitude and motivation, there could be the opportunity to go on to specialise at Level 3 in one of the following technical areas:

  • Track
  • Fleet
  • Signals
  • Escalators
  • Civils
  • Railway Engineering Workshop
