Engineering Technician (Assembly) Apprenticeship
BMW offers an enhanced apprenticeship in comparison to others in industry. The four year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of Engineering and production technology including: hand-skills, machining, fluid power, electronics, robotics, control systems and many more.
Our advisors are always available to provide individual support and guidance, enabling you to customise training to suit your skills.
In your first year, you will undertake practical training as well as working towards a Level 3 BTEC Award in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and a NVQ Level 4 in Engineering and Manufacturing. You will be expected to successfully complete an honour degree in engineering during years 2 – 4 of your apprenticeship which is fully funded by the company.
Training consist of the study of modern state of the art automotive production technology, as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques. This includes: robot maintenance and programming, automated engine assembly facilities and engine test/analysis equipment. Our core engineering training covers electronics, pneumatics, electrical, plc’s, hydraulics, milling, turning, basic hand skills as well as general mechanical engineering.
This training takes place at Plant Hams Hall and a local college.
BMW Manufacturing/Engineering teams are vitally important in all areas of our business, including quality support, process specialists, manufacturing engineering, planning etc. They are responsible for the rapid resolution to complex problems in the technical manufacturing environment.
You will need to be enthusiastic and well-disciplined as our apprenticeship is heavily focused on attitude and behaviour. In addition you need to exhibit initiative, be reliable and conscientious. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to think logically and to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications required for Apprenticeship:
A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade B or above (6 in the new GCSE Grading Structure) including Maths, English, Science and a Technology related subject. You will ideally have two A Levels at Grade C or above in both a Mathematical subject and a Science, Technology or Engineering related subject, or a BTEC level 3 (90 credits plus) or equivalent in a relevant Engineering or Technology discipline.

Rate of Pay:
A competitive salary enhanced annually depending on individual progress and performance starting at circa £12,500 per annum rising to over £24,000 over the programme.
Immediate eligibility for company car scheme, plus other benefits.
38 hour working week, start and finish times will vary according to work based placements and college hours.
