About Severn Trent
At Severn Trent, we bring clean water to over eight million people, every day. Together, we’re delivering and caring for the world’s most precious resource.
We’re a fluid organisation – the challenges we face are always changing, and we’re changing to meet them. From harnessing the power of digital technology to finding safer, more efficient ways to save water, we’re building a network that’s ready for the 21st century. As an Apprentice, you’ll be at the heart of that transformation.
Utilities Engineering Technician
Become a Technical Expert in a global organisation
As a Utilities Engineering Apprentice, you’ll get to explore our network, find out what makes it flow and develop the skills to build something better.
From valves to viaducts, pumps to power stations
Bringing clean water to millions of people is a complex process – turning a raindrop into a running tap takes the expertise of hundreds of careful, skilled technicians. Here are just some of the areas you could specialise in:
Utilities Engineering Technician – Mechanical
You’ll get to grips with core mechanical theory and principles, applying them to a range of complex systems, carrying out essential repairs, and keeping us and our communities connected.
Utilities Engineering Technician – Electrical
You’ll find out about the intricate electrical networks that make our business flow. Installing, inspecting and maintaining them, you’ll ensure that our customers have a safe and reliable water supply.
Utilities Engineering Technician – Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA)
You’ll learn how to assess, repair and overhaul vital instruments and control equipment. Diagnosing faults and designing solutions, the knowledge you develop will keep our business running.
Discover a world of water
Starting with an intensive residential period, during which you’ll learn about the infrastructure that ties us and our communities together – and the science that makes it work – this apprenticeship is designed to get you doing hands-on, technical projects as soon as possible. As you move forward, you’ll also have the opportunity to rotate between different schemes, getting to know our network from the ground up, honing new skills and receiving nationally recognised qualifications. This 3 year Advanced Apprenticeship is A-level standard. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain a range of NVQ Level 3 qualifications.
What we’re looking for
- At least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent), including Maths, English and ideally a Science subject
- Willingness to get your full UK driving licence (if you don’t already have it)
- Ability to get to work and college independently – not all our sites are on public transport routes
- The full right to live and work in the UK (without restrictions)
