Manufacturing Science Apprenticeship
Our R&D manufacturing apprenticeship programme is designed to create the science manufacturing technicians of the future.
As a Manufacturing Scientist apprentice you will work within our R&D pilot plant facilities where we manufacture oral solid dose (tablets and capsules) and respiratory (inhalers, capsules and intranasal devices) drug products for clinical trials and other investigational purposes.
As a Manufacturing Scientist apprentice you will develop the skills and knowledge required to operate the systems and equipment that produce our pharmaceutical products. You will work as a member of a team of manufacturing scientists, manufacturing drug products to a production schedule.
A broad understanding of the R&D manufacturing environment will be provided through rotations which might include laboratory, planning, logistics, validation, engineering, materials management and commercial functions.
What will this apprenticeship offer me?
During this Higher Apprenticeship, you will study for a Foundation degree (FdSc) in Chemical Science, via distance learning one day a week.
What does a Manufacturing Scientist apprenticeship involve?
You will be assigned to one of our R&D pilot plants, combining on-the-job learning with a programme of training and development. Your role might involve:
- Working as part of a team of manufacturing scientists
- Supporting the design, introduction, validation and commissioning of new process equipment
- Supporting complex manufacturing processes
- Ensuring quality, safety and accuracy
Do I have the skills?
To be eligible for our Manufacturing Scientist apprenticeship programme, you will need:
- A minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent at grade C or above, including Maths, English Language (not Literature) and a science subject;
- 96 UCAS points on the 2017 tariff including Mathematics and/or Chemistry and/or Applied Science.
